UNEP-WCMC 2022. Global Ocean Asset Data Guide. A guide for the use of global ocean asset data in ocean accounting. Global Ocean Accounts Partnership and UN Environment Programme World Conservation Monitoring Centre.

The Global Ocean Asset Data Guide provides practical support to countries for the use of global data on ocean assets in developing national ocean accounts. It supports a Global Ocean Asset Data Inventory that updates an initial inventory produced by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific and the Global Ocean Accounts Partnership (GOAP) in 2019. The Guide aims to enable national ocean accounts compilers to make informed decisions on the use of global ocean datasets that are varied in quality, accessibility and purpose.

The updated Inventory and accompanying Guide are part of the technical support provided by GOAP for the advancement of ocean accounting. Both are aligned with the GOAP Technical Guidance on Ocean Accounting for Sustainable Development and with the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting produced under the auspices of the United Nations Statistics Division.

The Global Ocean Asset Data Inventory lists global datasets on ocean assets that may be used by national account compilers in developing national ocean accounts where national data are not available. The Inventory updates an initial inventory produced by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP) and the Global Ocean Accounts Partnership (GOAP) in 2019.

The Inventory is structured around key data needs for physical asset accounts and generally established data quality assessment criteria for national statistics. The updated structure seeks to provide national ocean account compilers with information that can be used to rapidly assess the relevance, utility, strengths and weaknesses of each dataset. The information should enable the users to decide whether a dataset is of suitable quality for their specific national context and ocean accounting priorities.
