UNEP, INPE, IPEA, IIASA. (2016). REDD-PAC Brazil Biodiversity Policy Brief. Cambridge, UK: UNEP-WCMC. URL: http://wcmc.io/REDD-PAC_Brazil_Biodiversity_Policy_Brief
This policy brief provides summary results produced by the REDD-PAC project about the impacts of Brazil’s Native Vegetation Protection Act, commonly known as the Forest Code (FC), on biodiversity conservation across the country’s biomes. Model projections show that the full implementation of the FC will both reduce emissions of greenhouse gases and contribute to conserving biodiversity in Brazil. They also highlight the importance for biodiversity conservation of implementing the Environmental Reserve Tradable Certificate mechanism.
This policy brief was produced by UNEP World Conservation Monitoring Centre in collaboration with the Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (INPE), the Instituto de Pesquisa Econômica Aplicada (IPEA) and the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), as part of the REDD-PAC project. The REDD-PAC project is financed by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the Federal Ministry of Germany for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB). Additional support has been provided by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP).
