UNEP-WCMC. (2018). Compendium of guidance on key global databases related to biodiversity-related conventions. Cambridge (UK): UNEP-WCMC. https://doi.org/10.34892/9XC8-0D10.
There is wide recognition of the need to enhance cooperation and create opportunities for synergies in implementing the biodiversity-related conventions at the national level, in order to achieve more coherent, efficient and effective implementation. This has been the subject of a number of decisions taken by parties in the governance bodies of each of the biodiversity-related conventions. Significantly, at the most recent13th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity a “road map for enhancing synergies among the biodiversity-related conventions at the international level 2017-2020” was adopted (Annex II to CBD COP decision XIII/24).
Since November 2017, UN Environment, the CBD Secretariat and UNEP-WCMC have been carried out a number of the actions described in the road map, with financial support from the Governments of Finland and Switzerland and the European Union. This work has included the development of compendia of existing guidance on: (1) achieving synergies among the biodiversity-related conventions; (2) capturing, managing and using data and information; and (3) key global databases related to biodiversity.
