UNEP-WCMC, Luc Hoffmann Institute, National Geographic Society, & NatureMap Consortium. (2019). A synthesis of available scientific input to inform the development of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework. Cambridge (UK): UNEP-WCMC. https://doi.org/10.34892/90sx-3202

This report draws on discussions held during a workshop convened at Clare College, University of Cambridge, UK from May 20-24, 2019. The workshop, entitled ‘Gaining consensus on spatial and temporal biodiversity metrics for informed decision-making,’ was a collaborative effort between the Luc Hoffmann Institute, the UN Environment Programme World Conservation Monitoring Centre, National Geographic Society, the NatureMap consortium, and the biodiversity hub of the Science-Based Targets Network. The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss a range of frameworks and approaches to monitoring biodiversity and measuring progress towards policy targets. It also raised several important issues related to current knowledge gaps, the need to capture multiple dimensions of biodiversity, and what it means to live in harmony with nature. This report has been developed to support government negotiators, national focal points of the Convention on Biological Diversity, and observer organisations in the development and subsequent implementation of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework.
