UNEP. (year). Data Reporting Tools for MEAs - DaRT [online]. Available at: https://dart.informea.org/.

The Data Reporting Tool for MEAs – DaRT is a voluntary tool aiming at supporting Parties to Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) in organizing, sharing, and maintaining information, data and knowledge across conventions, relating it to national, regional and global environmental targets. It aims to support Parties in national reporting and is the first tool that allows Parties to effectively benefit from synergies in the field of knowledge and information management for national reporting to biodiversity-related conventions. It will directly support Parties in reporting on the implementation of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework that is expected to be adopted at the next Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 15).

DaRT provides private and secure national working spaces for Parties to:

  • Collect and organize knowledge, information and /or documents relevant for national reporting to biodiversity-related conventions and MEAs,
  • Store this knowledge in a secure place for the use on a long-term basis, and
  • Share the knowledge among national experts and collaborators, according to national needs.

In the medium term, interoperability will be developed with all the tools created to support Parties in implementing the conventions and to report thereon, allowing for increased access to data and information, and further facilitating reporting.

DaRT has been developed by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) since 2018 with support of the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP decisions XIV/25 and XIV/27).CMS Resolution 11.10 (Rev.COP13) also recognises DaRT as being a tool supporting governments to develop coherent and synergistic approaches across conventions to increase the effectiveness of national efforts.

DaRT is hosted by UNEP and integrated with the InforMEA Portal, which brings together MEAs. It is financially supported by the European Union and Switzerland.
