This dataset shows the known locations of sea turtle nesting sites, for all seven species: hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata), Kemp's ridley turtle (Lepidochelys kempii), leatherback turtle (Dermochelys coriacea), green turtle (Chelonia mydas), loggerhead turtle (Caretta caretta), olive ridley turtle (Lepidochelys olivacea), and flatback turtle (Natator depressus). This version of the dataset (1.1) includes each species' designated global threat status and year (IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, Version 2014.3), which were incorporated by UNEP-WCMC and released in May 2015. This dataset supersedes version 1.0, originally released in 1999. This is a legacy dataset developed in the 1990's by UNEP-WCMC. It has now been superseded by the State of the World’s Sea Turtles database
